United Way fundraiser and school supply drive draw inspiration from Dolly Parton

MOSCOW—Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is becoming a household name, much like the famed County Music legend herself. Folks around Latah and Whitman Counties are hearing about it more, not only because of Dolly’s August visit to Tacoma, but also the efforts of the United Way of Whitman County and the United Way of Latah County, and their board members, over the past year or so.

The annual Bull Country Community Days of Caring fundraiser and awareness campaign is taking inspiration from the early childhood literacy program (which is also conveniently free to families) by incorporating a school supply drive this year. What’s obvious but worth mentioning is that early childhood preparedness and literacy go hand in hand, which made the supply-drive a no-brainer.

Sponsors of the campaign, notably WSECU (Washington State Employees Credit Union) in Pullman, the perennial presenting sponsor, will be a collection point for school supplies, as will other locations, to be announced in marketing in the weeks to come. The campaign kicks off on Wednesday, October 4th this year although supplies will be collected through the end of the month.

‘WSECU champions education and community; we’re excited to see local members of our community team-up and support this drive,’ said Diana Keller, co-branch manager at WSECU in Pullman.

Since the inception of the fundraiser in 2012, more than $113,000 has been raised for the local United Way organizations.

Special interviews will also be featured on The Morning Giddy-Up with Mandy Grant on Bull Country 99.5 October 4th, 5th and 6th from community members connected to the campaign.
